Plea Near in Northridge Kidnap

The man charged with kidnapping and assaulting a 10-year-old girl from Northridge may admit to the crime at a hearing in early October.

Several people familiar with the case against ex-con Tobias Summers said his defense attorney has signaled a negotiated plea, "may be close," and the judge said in court Monday he would pressure prosecutors to, "resolve," the case against Summers' co-defendant with another plea.

L.A. Superior Court Judge Lloyd Nash told Daniel Martinez, who's accused of driving the kidnapping getaway car, that he would talk with the attorneys on the case October 3rd, "to resolve your case more favorably," than the District Attorneys Office would like.

Summers is charged with some 3-dozen counts for allegedly abducting the girl from her home near the Northridge mall March 27, assaulting her, and releasing her near a coffee shop about 12-hours later.

He was arrested in Mexico.
