Santa Ana Power Outage

Santa Ana Power Outage

SANTA ANA (CNS) - A power outage this afternoon shut off electricity to  Santa Ana City Hall and the city's jail, as well as other offices downtown.

Power was knocked out in two neighborhoods. Electricity was restored for  all but one customer in one area, but customers in the other were expected to  be without power until 9 p.m., Southern California Edison spokesman Robert  Villegas said.

Power was lost from 12:50 p.m. to 1:40 p.m. for 681 customers from 10th  to Myrtle streets and Sycamore to Sullivan streets, Villegas said. One customer  was expected to remain without power until midnight, he said.

The outage also affected 1,082 customers from 16th to Third streets and  Broadway to English Street, Villegas said. Power was expected to be restored in  that area by 9 p.m., he said.

Edison officials suspect the outage was caused by a car crashing into a  power pole, but Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said city officials  think it was caused by the removal of a power pole at Bristol and Washington as  part of road work.

No problems related to the outage were immediately reported, and the  government offices were functioning with back-up generators, Bertagna said.
